I feel that we are all going to encounter obstacles in our career paths, it is how we handle them that is important. Just remember to breathe and make a list to prioritize what can be changed or improved because of the obstacle you are facing. Due to some life changes, I've had to start an entry level role twice in two different cities. I am hoping to learn as much as I can in my new organization and industry to foster and develop my career in HR. Best of luck to you and remember to take it one day at a time.

Hi David,

I think that in all careers there will be obstacles to get to where you want to be, whether it be immense competition over an internship or working long hours to get to the promotion you're longing for. Once you find a career that you love, though, it will not seem like a massive obstacle but rather a building block to which you can continue to grow upon and further your career.

I hope this helps in some way!

I think it is a lot of pressure to put on ourselves to find one path to one career. Statistics show now that your generation will have multiple "careers" your lifetime. This makes sense. We, as full human beings with minds, bodies and spirits, usually have many things in which we are interested, and the job market has changed so much over the past 20-30 years that it is rare now to find someone who starts and stays with one company for their entire career as it was often the case in the past.

I recommend watching professor and author, Bill Burnett"s TED talk at Stanford entitled "Designing Your Life." He addresses a lot of common thinking when it comes to choosing a career path and gives solutions and actions that one can take to move you along the way and help you not feel stuck.

Hope this helps.

It is not if one will have obstacles but it is when the obstacles do occur how do you turn them around. I will go one step further to suggest that you should use the obstacle to draw out your strengths! No one will appreciate when everyday is BAU with no significant event. But you will get noticed when shits do happen and when you concur it brilliantly! What is the obstacle which you are having now?
