If you are entering the Army as an enlisted soldier your recruiter can setup you up with a RASP (Ranger Assessment Program) slot but he/she cannot guarantee you a spot in Ranger School itself. You must also obtain a certain ASVB score.

The ABSOLUTE #1 tip I would give to a soldier entering Ranger School is to be in tip top shape, have very strong mental focus & go in with your legs & back as super strong as you can possibly get them!!

Jacob’s Answer

Hi, Stan,

Considering joining the military is an honorable endeavor. The military provides an extremely challenging but also very rewarding career path. With that said, military life is not for everyone and it is often sensationalized by film, video games, and in the media. Researching, asking questions, and talking to those who have experience in the path that interests you are key to making the most out of your experience.

For context, I am a former Army Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader. I was commissioned through the ROTC program at my college and served four years on active duty.

The 75th Ranger Regiment is a component of the Army's Special Operations Command. I can't speak to the specific requirements myself since I was not a part of that unit, but the link below gives more details about the specific requirements and the path to become a Ranger.

I think you are doing the right thing by asking questions and seeking information early on to prepare yourself for the journey if you ultimately conclude that it is what you want to do. I would caution you to keep an open mind. Reflect often on your career aspirations and acknowledge that they will likely change as you get older. Challenge yourself to reevaluate why you want to join the Army often. That introspection will help solidify your values and goals and will help ensure that you have a rewarding experience in the military.

I hope this answer helps - if you have any other questions, feel free to add a comment to this answer and I'll do my best to answer.

Thank you comment icon Thank you for your service, i understand that the military in real life vs what media shows is way way different like what the rest of my family who have served say "war is hell" thank you. Stan
