Thank you comment icon Many archaeologists start with a bachelor degree in archaeology or anthropology and then pursue higher education. Most archaeologist positions require a master or doctoral degree. To conduct research or teach, a PhD is required. Courtney Schreiber (Johnson)

A bachelor's and master's degree in Archaeology is necessary to work as an Archaeologist in India. Bachelor's degrees are generally required for entry-level archaeology positions, such as field assistant, surveyor or museum technician. Aspiring archaeologists typically pursue degrees in anthropology, which consist of studies in archaeology, cultural anthropology, biological anthropology and linguistics. You will be able to specialize in archaeology only at the Masters/Post-Graduate level (at least in India).
Typically, archaeology falls under the humanities domain. Hence, you should be studying subjects such as History, Geography, Sociology, etc., in class 11th and 12th.

These are a few top institutes providing masters’ in Archaeology:
• The Delhi Institute of Heritage Research and Management, New Delhi
• University of Kerala, Thiruvanthapuram
• Bangalore University, Bangalore
• Institute of Archaeology, New Delhi
