Ed’s Answer
People's emotions. It's out of your control, it's mostly due to external (or inner) circumstances and yet, it affect how they behave and work. Some people are sensitive, some are strong (some think they're strong), so dealing with that can be hard.

Sheila’s Answer
Hi Ed,
I’ve found that finding my work/home balance the most difficult. We give everything we have to care for others that once we get home we’re exhausted. My husband tells me that I’m using up all of my niceness at work. He’s absolutely right. I struggle giving my family the same respect and consideration I give to others and their families.

Lisa’s Answer
Nursing is stressful. Dealing with illness and death is tough. But it is also very rewarding. Nursing is a big community. You make life long friendships and mentors. It’s constant learning. I wouldn’t do anything else, even after 24 years in the ICU !

Robert J.’s Answer
Hello Eduardo,
I am medical group practice manager for a federal women's health clinic. Ed and Lisa raised good points speaking of emotions and illness, respectively. I will add: bureaucracy. Sometimes despite everyone's best efforts our jobs can appear much more difficult than they need to be because of layers of processes that must be approved by distant decision-makers.
You may want to reach out to professionals to arrange a visit to their places or work. This way you may get more of an idea of what you will likely find stressful, or not. And decide on a career track that is suitable to your preferences.
