Hi Evan. It really depends on what kind of music teacher you want to be. Most formal positions in schools will require a BA or BM (bachelor's degree) in Music or music Education to support all the information you should know to be a classroom educator. If you want to teach private lessons and perform, you could also earn a performance degree.
If I were you I'd talk with your music teacher(s) and ask what it was like to begin teaching in your home state. They will have a good idea about the process for a credential/certification if public school is the route you'd like to go. They will also be familiar with the universities near you, and be better equipped to speak about the strength of those programs.
Regardless of the type of educator you'd like to become, you must start now with diligent practice of your instrument. If your school offers a music theory or AP Music theory class, that would be a good thing to take so you can get a head start on your fundamental knowledge of college music study.
Good luck!🍀

Hi Evan,
I'm a music composer in Hollywood and I was born in Exeter, New Hampshire.
I consider New Hampshire my second home, so I had to reach out to you :)
I can't say much more than Andrew already suggested, and his advice is spot on.
I would recommend learning guitar and piano, practicing relentlessly, and becoming a master of your craft before
you consider teaching.
From there, you can teach at any level school or teach privately for an hourly fee.
If you are interested in creating instrumental music for film and TV like I do, feel free to reach out to me privately.
Good luck!
