I am a type of person who likes to devote his free time in the service of others. I volunteered in many departments such as the Red Cross, UNICEF, UNESCO, All Hands and Heart in Houston (hurricane relief). Just want to know about local community services in Brooklyn or in the NYC in general!!! #college #career

Elaine’s Answer

There are many fields you could join to be in service of others. The healthcare industry is often populated by people that focus on being in service to others, especially specializations in geriatric and pediatric care. You could also consider going into a non-for-profit organization that serves local communities, on focus areas ranging from homelessness to animal rights. Once thing you could consider asking yourself to narrow down you thinking would be - what was those most meaningful way you have seen someone be in service of someone else? What about it made it meaningful to you. Hope this helps!

Susan’s Answer

I'm not clear what question you are asking. Can you clarify?
I would be happy to answer it when you do.
Also, be mindful of typos-like vs likes. I know it's a pain, but you need to get into the practice of impressing people and writing well is a big part of that.
Look forward to hearing more.

Bunditwong,’s Answer

Hello,
I want to congratulate you for being kind hearted. My suggestion would be to get in touch with the local congressman office and see if you can volunteer to help your local community. Brooklyn right now have lots of homeless shelters that are being built and not enough willing bodies to serve the community. Many children are living in these shelters and they too need help with basic needs.

Hi Alpha B! Happy Day to You! First, I want to commend you on being involved in service to others...I do the same as well. I found an interesting article and the link is below. You'll see descriptions, requirements/commitments, and minimum age. As far as turning this drive into a career, I must echo Elaine...the medical field is one to explore, as is social work, teaching, non-profits, and other helping professions. Frankly, you may not make tons of money at it, but you will have a satisfying life and career knowing that you have had a ripple effect on the lives of others. Be brave and I wish you every success!! Best, Dr. B
