There are two modes of entering the army. As a soldier or as an officer. There are different eligibility criteria's for getting selected to either of these entry modalities. Your best bet for becoming an officer would be to answer the National Defence Academy entrance examination after completing your 12th standard. Once you clear the exam, you would have to go through the Service Selection Board. Once selected you can opt for Army, Navy or Airforce. After this you would have to undergo the relevant training and then you would be commissioned as an officer in the Army.

There are several ways in which you can join the Indian Army. Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission are two main types of commissions that do the recruitment. In permanent you can serve till 60 years. In Short Service (SSC), you can serve for 10 years with possibility of extension then on.
NDA (National Defence Academy) conducts exam (UPSC) for Class XII students. SSB (Services Selection Board) also conducts the exams for the entry.
Graduates can appear for the exams conducted by CDSE (Combined Defence Service Exam) (UPSC). It is for Indian Military Academy Direct (IMA)
There are some schemes for Graduate Technical Entry such as University Entry Schemes (UES), Army Education Corps (AEC) etc.
The advertisement for all these exams are given in all leading newspapers and on the respective websites.
You can follow UPSC's website for more details of the schedule of these exams.
Also I found JoinIndianArmy.nic.in website good for your purpose.
All the best for your future.
Thank you.

I would recommend looking into if your highschool offer JROTC/ROTC and if so join that as an elective. Additionally I would look at what specifically appeals to you in regards to the army due to the fact what you think is great may be even better in a different branch of service. I highly recommend when you are in late 11th grade to talk to at least 2 different branches of military recruiters. They will try to push you towards a specific job based upon what's needed at the time, however you still make the decision on what to go in for.

Hi Sumit,
I would talk to an Army recruiter, and they will be more than happy to start the process for you.
Before you do that though, I would suggest you think through your goals. Do you want to go to college first? Do you want to be an officer? Do you know what a commando is? Recruiters will want you to enlist in the career field in need of manning the most. I would think through exactly what you want to do before a recruiter tells you what you want to do.

The easiest way to go about this is keep yourself in good shape by working out and looking for different opportunities such as JROTC/ROTC. With this, the army and military as a whole can offer a multitude of different jobs. If being a commando (most likely the closest to this would be a Green Beret or a Ranger) is your desired occupation, then your best course of action is to enlist into the infantry and pursue follow on training because these are special force training.
