Being a stylist can be a very rewarding career! After all, you help people look beautiful all day! Generally cosmetology schools allow you to complete your training in 12-24 months, depending on whether you decide to pursue your education full or part-time. Each state has specific licensing requirements for cosmetology professionals. It looks like you live in North Carolina so you would need to complete 300 hours in an approved cosmetic art school hair care program to to be a hair stylist or 1500 hours to be a cosmetologist and then pass the corresponding state licensing exam with a score of 75% or better.

Kari recommends the following next steps:

Community Colleges offer many programs so it's possible that a community college near you may have a cosmetology program. They are generally much less expensive than for-profit cosmetology schools. It looks like there are three community colleges and two beauty schools that are within an hour of your listed hometown. I'd recommend setting up an appointment to speak with an adviser to get more info on the programs each of these schools offer.
