How does one advance in the field of construction?
I plan to be a construction manager or a contractor.

You will certainly need to learn skills and take relevant courses. Your local community or technical colleges will offer certificate or associate degrees in construction management, construction technology, etc. Once you do that, if you want advance further, I would suggest advance courses at a four year college. From there, you will have even greater opportunities and course choices.
While you're still in high school concentrate on mathematics, physics, general science, and vocational courses (if available).

Number one is let your supervisor know you want to progress and ask for tasks to reach your goal. If its your supervisor is who you want to be then go to their supervisor. Set a plan in place with them with a timeline.
Secondly lead by example. That doesn't mean just work hard, it means go above and beyond, be politically correct and manage people don't argue with them.
