Do you recommend taking a gap year before medical school?
Hi! My name is Anina and I'm a high school senior interning at Career Village. I have a few friends who are starting to finish college, and the pre-meds seem to be evenly split between those who are applying to medical school, and those who are taking a gap year before applications. What are some of the more driving factors to make someone choose to take a gap year- or not? #doctor #medicine #medical-school

I took a two year break after college before going to medical school because I felt like I needed a break from school and studying. I worked during that time and saved money. The money helped when I went to medical school, but on the negative side, being out of school for two years I had to redevelop my study habits which I had not utilized regularly and in the beginning it was a struggle. I think you should do what's best for you when you get to that point.
Good luck with everything!!

Hi Anina,
Taking a gap may cause 1- not wanting to go back - life happens 2- your interest in the field may not be the same when you return. In the medical field it is best to continue you have to stay focus in the end result. Ask yourself How bad do you want it or follow your friends that is a taking a gap year before going back? A lot could happen in a year.
