Hi Damien,
You asked a good question because financial planning is a very broad industry. There are financial planning services that help individuals make decisions regarding their own investments, debts, assets, retirement etc. but there are also financial planning services that help businesses and large corporations make decisions regarding their money as well. A lot of times financial planners help people figure out how to smartly spend or invest their money. Everyone has different money goals given where they got their start, what their risk tolerance is, and how much time they can allot before needing to cash out on an investment. Financial planners can help their clients try to achieve their money goals, whether that's recommending a certain investment vehicle based on the client's risk profile or educating them on retirement plans available.
I don't think there is a threshold for starting to need a financial planner, which makes it a very useful industry and a great career choice. Even high school students could use a financial planner to help them plan for paying for college and learn about scholarship and student loan options available.
Good luck!

Hi Damien,
Financial Planning as an industry is the use of a person or firm that provides you financial
advice that will help you meet your short and long term financial goals. Most financial goals
are related to retirement, how much money will I need to live when I reach my retirement
goals. You can have other financial goals as well such as paying off your home, buying cars,
buying rental property to name a few.
The advice I receive when I started with my company was to invest in the 401K immediately
as you will never miss the money. This has turned out to be some of the best financial advice
I ever received.
Be sure to plan for your future because no one else will do it for you and your career will go
by so much quicker than you realize. Invest young and watch those investments grow over
your career.
