Robert J.’s Answer

Hello Janis,

As a group practice manager and clinic administrator, I had basic familiarity with the electronic health records (EHR) systems used by my organization. I also have a solid working knowledge of the word processing applications used by my organization.

I recommend you get to know what EHR systems are used by the health systems that interest you, and look to gain demonstrable experience in their application. Good medical support assistants are vital to the success of health systems.

Best regards,
Rob
Thank you comment icon Hello Mr. Meyers, Thank you for responding to my question. I looked up what EHR systems is and found out that it is Electronic Health Records systems. I will try and see if I can learn more about it on YouTube. Currently, I am gaining a solid working knowledge with word processing applications. Your input was very helpful. Thank you, and best wishes to you. Sincerely, Janis Janis

Amanda’s Answer

I think education around EMR in general would be helpful. What is an EMR? How is it designed? What companies create/sell EMRs (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.). Also, education around payment models in healthcare (value based purchasing inpt/outpt). Volunteer at a hospital and/or clinic.
