Different volunteering organisations have different needs. What are your interests? Perhaps make a list of these along with your key skills and research into relevant volunteering organisations. Some will require volunteers, others may require funds. Those that require volunteers may require different skill sets and this would vary greatly between different organisations.

Hi, I love all the answers before me! There are so many needs of volunteer organizations and so many different kinds of volunteer organizations. Volunteer organizations are built around a need they have found in the world that needs help to be filled. The work involved depends on the organization and need they fill. But one constant for all volunteer organizations is the need for willing people with willing hearts and willing hands.
You're question indicates you have a willing heart and willing hands. My advice is to try volunteering with different organizations who serve different needs. This will help you understand what work inspires you as well as what skills and talents you have to contribute.

There are a great variety of needs and something for everyone. For many volunteer opportunities you don't need any experience but a desire to help others.
Think about what you might like to do or what skills will be helpful in the future. Volunteer positions can be seen as a very positive signal about your values and abilities. Explore a variety of organizations by doing online research and asking to meet with nonprofit volunteer managers. They can also help you decide where to begin.
With every good wish!

Hi,
I would first start with deciding what your theme for you volunteer organization should be. Write a mission and vision statement for your organization. I have a website listed below that gives some key components to have for a volunteer organization. Take your time looking through the website. I also suggest to go to a career center to learn from a career counselor about the components they have for their facility and to get feedback about your mission/vision statements.
Good Luck, you got this!

I agree with Karen. There are so many areas where there are gaps in the non profit sector, however they vary by organization. Sometimes they need financial resources, goods in kind/donations, an extra set of hands, or soft/technical skills to help out on the operations front. As per Karen's guidance, your involvement should factor in a combination of things beyond what social or environmental issues you are passionate about. Consider the value you can lend and the opportunity for you to learn - whether soft or technical skills and the opportunity expand your personal / professional network. Hope this helps!
