Okay, let me preface this with, do not do what I did. I had a lot of fun in high school AND was a very very good student. When I was in college my Freshman and Sophomore years, I thought those two things were possible in the same exact proportions. That is not the case. I had a lot of making up to do from my first two years of college that have affected my school goals today. As far as your question is concerned, my first two years. It was about... 60-70% fun and 30-40% school work possibly. Maybe a little bit higher percentage on the fun side. It was great, a lot of great memories, but my GPA really suffered. My third year, when I tried to get into nursing school, a little bit more like 60-70% school and 30-40% fun. Once I got into nursing school (at a different school than my original school because of my GPA (which wasn't bad, it was 3.4 or 3.5), it was about 90% school and 10% fun because I was going to class 8 hours per day (8am-4pm) four days per week with a ton of homework and difficult tests. I would recommend more balance on both sides of the argument. It is more about responsibility. Know your academic limitations and know what each class requires of you and be REASONABLE. Please please have fun in college, but also know when it is time to do work. That is my 2-cents
