Bryan’s Answer

I know this may seem like an obvious answer, but any place with extreme weather conditions or a wide range of temperatures throughout the year is a good place. HVAC companies know this, however and as a result these markets are often pretty saturated.

I worked at a Plumbing and HVAC wholesale distribution business in Las Vegas for several years and we were always busy and had one of the largest and busiest branches (in terms of revenue) in the US. This is partly do to the heat, and partly due to the casinos. They are mandated to remodel every 3 years so there are always major renovation and new construction projects going on. Hope that helps!

Kerry’s Answer

It’s easier to make a name for yourself in smaller communities where people thrive off of recommendations and there is typically less competition. Also, cities with high levels of new home construction, like Oklahoma City for example, is a good choice.

Thank you comment icon what do you mean??????? Pauline
Thank you comment icon Hi Duncan, I believe you have misunderstood the question. Pauline was asking which types of locations would be good places to start a heating/air conditioning business. I don't think she wanted to know where to put the air conditioning unit Gurpreet Lally, Admin

John R’s Answer

Hello,

You inquired about both Heating and Air Conditioning. The answer actually depends on many variables. One being competition in an area compared to the housing units in the market.

In smaller markets, there is an option of providing refrigeration services for additional revenue which is often overlooked.

But regardless of the area, you need to establish a good reputation, and standout among the competition. Don't lower or compromise your standard of excellence. You'll be rewarded for your hard work.

Have a great day and the best wishes if you pursue opportunities in the Skilled Trades.

John
