Ann’s Answer

if you want to be an accountant, make sure you take classes in college to be eligible to take the CPA exam for the state or states where you intend to get a job. The requirements are different for each state, so check with the board of accountancy in each state.

Michael’s Answer

If you want to become an accountant, you should major in accounting. Additionally, as accounting is becoming more and more tech-focused, large accounting firms and employers are focusing on recruiting candidates with information systems or computer science backgrounds, generally in addition to accounting degrees.

Anne’s Answer

The traditional approach is to major in accountancy or any related major and obtain the 150 credits to sit for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) exam through a 5-year program, which is often a Bachelor and a Master of Science.

I studied Economics in Undergrad first and then a couple of years later after I graduated, I studied Accountancy for my MBA .

The best thing about accounting is you can use in any field you go to. If you are interested in a particular industry for example, Hospitality (Hotels), Entertainment (TV Network), Insurance (Medical Insurance Company), every company/organization needs an accountant, you just have to decide which area you prefer. There are opportunities in non for profits, real estate, taxation, etc, the list is endless. Good luck!
