Bill’s Answer

Keyla,

It is extremely important to be an independent problem solver. There will be several times a day where a change of direction in execution is required to keep the project moving forward. Therefore, within code limitations, you must have the ability to recommend solutions in resolving issues.

Best, bill

Robert’s Answer

I'd have to say that the ability to learn from others mistakes and experances will enhance your ability to perform your job more effectively. Then taking those experances and developing a plan to perform the same job in the most effective way you can find. Then showing others there are many ways to do the job.
Keeping an open mind can be vital. There is not always one way to do something. Things happen that cause the "Perfered method" to not work. Evaluating the situation is the only method that leads to a satisfactory outcome for all involved.

Shane’s Answer

I can only provide you with my experience of personal success and failure as it applies to construction.

Skills are acquired in a multitude of ways hands on, reading, formal classes, but for myself those that i retain strongly are ones that I have developed through the years through repetition and practice. The trades offer a variety of training in both hands on and classroom instruction. All of which are time and experience related. Allow for diversification as those that experience more often have wealth of knowledge to share.

The construction industry often requires a fair amount of physical effort to perform task so staying healthy and active can help performance on the job as well as avoiding injury from neglecting ability or pushing yourself to far.

The best character in an individual i can hope for is one of open minded, positive thoughts and the willingness to learn from all persons, peers, senior staff, as well as the new person to a team or group. We can learn from everyone if we are willing to listen.
That being said there is a time to understand when your asked to be a leader and when your to be a supporter.
Volunteer your talents when an opportunity presents itself, no one knows you better than you.

Last ask questions, if you are unsure about a process make it aware to your leader. Its much better to learn again then guess and cause someone more harm by injury to them or property because your to concerned about showing a weakness.
