Congratulations on your commitment to be good communicator! Good communication skills are necessary for every career and are very important for relationships. Below are some tips:
*Learn to really listen to others. Listen to what others are saying and to what they aren't saying--their body language is a non-verbal way of speaking.
*When listening to others speak, give them feedback so that they know you understand them.
*Get feedback from others to make sure that they understand what you're saying. If needed, clarify what you are saying.
*Speak with confidence. Be yourself!
*Be clear and concise in your speaking.
*Have empathy for the person with whom you are speaking. Empathy is being able to understand and share another person's feelings.
*Be respectful and friendly when speaking to others.
*Be aware of your own body language:
-When sitting at a table speaking with others, put your hands on the table.
-When standing, rest your hands at the sides of your body or hold your arms in a comfortable, open position. Avoid folding your arms.
-Maintain comfortable eye contact. Don't hold your gaze too long, as you want others to feel comfortable and at ease.
-Use a kind tone of voice.
*Be open-minded when communicating with others. It takes courage to talk about certain things.
