Richard’s Answer

I am a radiologist.. Best part is being able to help other physicians reach an an accurate diagnosis on patients so they can be treated effectively.

Worst part is the 2 weeks of night-shift I have to complete each year. The ER gets quite busy and many urgent exams are ordered in the middle of the night and must be interpreted quickly and accurately

Sable’s Answer

The best part of my Job as a Medical Assistant is being able to work in many different areas of medicine. I love the fact I am cross-trained in Billing and Coding, Administrative, Phlebotomy , and EKG. Also knowing that i am apart of the healing process for patients brightens up my day. The worse part about my job is working for a very rude doctor, patients who think because you are not an RN or higher that we know nothing about medicine, always being challenged by a resident or doctor about HIPPA and our knowledge of medicine. However seeing a patient you help heal walk out of the office makes it all worth it in the end.

Kerrie’s Answer

I would say as a nurse the best part is always the interactions with the patients! Yes, there are days that may be harder than others because if the workload, but if you keep the main goal in mind that you are there because the patients are sick and need you, it puts things into perspective. I have been a perioperative nurse for 25+ years so I think one of the other best parts is that the OR nurses only get one patient at a time. I had experience working on Med Surge and Peds and the number of patients that can be assigned to you at one time was always the hardest for me because I felt like I didn't have enough time for each patient/ Once I moved to full time in the OR, I felt like I had the time because you can only do one surgery at a time. Now, surgery is on a time schedule, but I know at that time I have that one patient the whole time.

Rachel’s Answer

I enjoy operating on a patient and providing an almost immediate fix to what was previously a life-threatening problem. There is great satisfaction that comes with taking a person from "cancer patient" to "survivor".

The worst part is time spent away from my young children.

Natalee’s Answer

That's a great question! As an emergency room nurse the best part of my job is witnessing patients who come on very ill recover because of our quick actions. I enjoy not knowing what my day is going to be like. Most importantly the best part of my job is receiving patients and family feedback about the job I have done for them.

The worse part is the limited staffing. More and more people are using emergency departments(ED) as primary care for one reason or another. Instead of see a primary doctor for complaints that are not emergencies, they flood the ED. This places a lot if burden on the limited staffing and makes our job very challenging at times. Hurry up and become a nurse soon, so we can have more colleagues to work with!!!

Natalee recommends the following next steps:

Get good grades
Specialize in sciences (bio, chemistry, anatomy and physiology)
Apply to nursing programs in your area
Complete nursing program
PASS your state board exam and join us!
