Media Studies is a very broad category, which is why many universities have a Department of Media Studies or similarly-titled branch of the school. A good place to start is with the foundations of all media studies, such as classes in the history of communications, media law, media ethics and the development of online and social media. Whatever medium you become inclined to pursue - TV, radio, public relations, journalism in print or online or even academia - you will have a depth of understanding most young people will not possess, at least not early on. And Anitha, whichever career path you choose don't be sidetracked about all of the stories about horrible pay in the media because if you are good you will be paid accordingly. Anitha, first determine which area of media you are interested in. For example, do you want to work in radio, TV, internet or publishing? Your answer will determine which classes to take. journalism media media-relations
