Syed’s Answer

Pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies and other life sciences companies (many are located in NY and NJ) need finance, corporate development (mergers and acquisitions), marketing.

You can also look at companies that work very closely with life sciences and other healthcare companies like ZS Associates (consulting) and Huron (healthcare consulting). All of the other major consultancies also have healthcare branches as well.

Consider PR/marketing agencies that work with prescription drug manufacturers and other healthcare companies as well.

Min-Sun’s Answer

Companies would like your diverse background with Life science, finance, and communication studies.

How about looking at finance roles for Life Science companies or bio tech companies?

Or, becoming an industry analyst that covers life science industry might be good, too. I worked as industry analyst covering technology industry and my finance major was helpful. Also, the analyst writes a lot. If you are comfortable and good at writing, this career route would be good. If you are not confident in writing, that is ok. I am sure you can learn and improve while you work.

Good luck and enjoy your avadventure!

Madisen’s Answer

Financial advice and financial planning doesn't incorporate the life sciences, but it is does combine the communication and finance pieces. It is a growing industry and lots of potential for growth (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/business-and-financial/mobile/personal-financial-advisors.htm). Definitely worth exploring.

Simeon’s Answer

I think you're probably looking at a career in credit union or bank work. Your communication degree can help you with your professional communication skills, both to clients as well as bosses and coworkers. If you are able to use your Life Sciences background, you might be able to write for a science magazine.

Deb’s Answer

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. An important milestone. You have a terrific mix of skills and experience. If you like to combine finance and life sciences, why not look at organizations engaged in some aspect of science and see if there are any entry level finance or financial analysis jobs available. Many jobs are advertised on a company’s own website or on job websites where numerous companies list openings. If you have not already put together a resume highlighting your skills and experience, you should start on that right away. Lots of good luck to you. Hope this was helpful!

Frank’s Answer

One way to discover possible career choices is to go to job listing websites such as "careerbuilder.com" to check current job openings in finance and communication. See what the requirements and job tasks are and see if you fit the descriptions.
Being in the insurance industry myself, I can tell you that finance and communication majors are important in our industry. We need people to analyze various scenarios of different insurance products and help create new products. The insurance industry is one of those hidden career paths people don't usually notice right away but we are in the background helping people protect their assets, family and helping to manage their risk. You may want to consider this industry and you'll find there are plenty of opportunities available in insurance. With your Life Sciences background perhaps a health insurance company might be a good fit. You might also consider signing up with a temporary job agency to try out different industries and who knows that you might not get hired permanently at one of those companies. I found an excellent job where I worked 13 1/2 years through a temporary agency. Best wishes to you. Keep looking and discovering.
