If there are theaters near you, I can almost guarantee they are looking for people to volunteer, intern or they might even have a paid position available (that’s a little less likely though). It’ll most likely be front of house type things or technical/PA positions, but that type of experience is SO VALUABLE. Plus people don’t think to GET that kind of experience on their resume, so not only will it give you opportunities to make connections with industry professionals, but it’ll give your non-acting resume a boost as well.

Hi Ronald!

I 100% agree with Andrew's answer-- volunteering at a local theater is a GREAT way to dip your feet into the acting world, build your resume, and make genuine connections with others. If you don't have a local theater, I'd recommend volunteering at your high school theater, maybe see if you could set some time aside and have meetings with the theater teacher/professor-- all teachers go through many hours and years of school to be good at what they do-- so I'm sure the theater teacher/professor could give you great insight into the world of theater!

Good luck!

I would highly recommend joining an improv group. This can help create a skill that is useful in any career you select, and can also be the thing that sets you apart from other actors.
