Many hospitals look for volunteers to help visitors navigate the hospital or to deliver items to patients' rooms. In addition, many nursing homes are looking for volunteers to help with patient activities. While these are not direct nursing type jobs, it gets you close to nurses and gives you a feel for what it is like to be around patients who need some sort of assistance.

There are great websites out there that will match people who have volunteer events with people who want to volunteer. You can usually create a profile that will send you matches for your areas of interest.

This is an article I found with a quick search that lists many.

Also if you have a local hospital that is your favorite you want to work with, just give them a call or check out the website to get engaged in their functions.

Most hospitals have annual fund raising campaigns or organizations they associate with that hold events and/or work directly with hospitals. You could also look through your local hospital website for non profit organizations affiliated with your local hospital, where they gain most of there additional volunteers.

In my local area we have a woman's organization that supports the hospital and affiliated Nursing Homes. Monthly I'm able to work with at both groups and its very fulfilling. We with directly with patients and the local community, which we are comfortable with. Best of Luck!
