Dear Jazmine, Nurses and doctors work closely together, but they do have different responsibilities- Great question! A doctor has more responsibility for the direction of care- They enter the orders and determine the best plan of care for medications and treatments- they order lab work and then interpret the results, basing their treatment plan on the answers they get from all of the testing that they do. Nurses work closely alongside the doctor to carry out the orders that were given- The nurses spend more time at the bedside of a patient- providing the care that has been 'mapped out' by the physician. I believe both fields are very necessary and equally good areas of practice. We need good physicians and good nurses to complete the care for each patient. I must admit that I am somewhat biased towards nursing because I love nursing! I have been caring for babies in the NICU for almost 30 years. I enjoy being able to have my hands on the babies to comfort and care for them, able to teach the families and give them encouragement- but I can't provide care without the neonatologist! I hope this helps you some as you make your decision- Best of luck to you!
