Here are a few pieces of advice I would have given myself before starting college:
- skipping class is really easy but it's almost never worth it
- start your papers/assignments well before the due date
- don't be afraid to ask for help
- get to know your professors; go to office hours at the beginning of the term even if you don't have a specific question or problem
- take care of your body; sleep well, exercise, eat healthy

There are several things that you can do to have a successful college experience. First, you need to know that my experience is at a two-year, non-residential college, so that is the perspective I speak from. I think one of the most important things to do is to know the resources your college offers, and to use them. Some of those might be: free tutoring, writing labs, career counseling and personal counseling. All of these services will support your success and keep you on the right path. My second piece of advise is simple, but it is so important. That is; ATTEND CLASS! Yes, it seems so simple, but I guarantee that your professors will know that you attend class on a regular basis, and that may help you when they are awarding grades at the end of the semester. Finally, find something to study that you love. A personal passion or even strong curiosity about what your are studying will help to keep you motivated.
