Would a degree in Dentay Hygiene give me a good foundation to continue on to Dental School?

I will be starting college in the fall of 2016. I decided on pursuing a major in dental hygiene with hopes to later go on to dental school. I know most of the dentists I have talked to said that they majored in biology or pre-dentistry before dental school. However, I did not want to major in pre-dental without being positive I wanted to go to dental school. Therefor, I picked a major which would still give me knowledge of dentistry, while also giving me a back up career. Is this a wise decision? #dentistry #dental #dental-hygiene

That's a great decision and you'll probably just stay a dental hygienist! However, if you decide to further your education, you'll definitely have a good foundation and many of your requisite classes behind you. You'll still have several years of school to complete, but you'll be well on your way! Good luck to you!

I agree with Ms. Shaw. If you do decide to become a dentist after having been a hygienist, you will be better prepared the many other dental students. You will be more familiar with dentistry and have more confidence in taking care of patients. One of my current best students is a hygienist and she is much more comfortable with patient treatment than other students.
