I agree with Rachel. There is no specific number of hours per week in residency. During clinic rotations, you will not spend much time in the OR, but during surgical months, the vast majority of your time will be in the operating room. You will round in the hospital before surgery and after surgery as well.

There is no specified time that you have to spend in the OR during residency. You will spend less time there your first couple of years, and you will spend most of your time there your last couple of years. You will need to log about 800 cases during your 5 years of general surgery training.
