What types of career options are there for polisci/comm majors??
I want to major in political science and minor in communications, but I have no idea what I want to do with it after school. I'm also considering adding a double minor in women and gender studies. #communications #communication #political-science #double-minor

There are so many career paths that you can explore with degrees in political science and communications. Political science degree with certain classes in philosophy, logic, sociology, psychology will give you the necessary critical thinking and analytical skills to open many opportunities - from an advanced degree in law to journalism to marketing and business. I have a political science undergrad degree with focus on international relations and economics. Over 25 years, I have worked in a law firm, 3 technology companies, government and my responsibilities spanned from trade and supply chain, to strategy, to government affairs, Chief of Staff to the CEO, emerging markets responsibility to the Chief Marketing Officer.
I would like to emphasize that focus on communications and ability to tell an effective story will set you apart if you desire to lead. Effectively and simply conveying ideas is key in any profession.
Finally, I highly recommend that you add digital communications / digital marketing classes to your roster. In today's world being able to digitally covey your ideas, to reach your target audience and to remain true and transparent in digital communications is more important than ever.
I hope this advice helps you and I wish you all the best!

I majored in Political Science with the original expectation to go into law school. So there is one option! It turned out that HR was a better fit for me and I now am Specialist for my company's HR PeopleOps team. In my role I focus on immigration and work closely with our immigration attorneys on visa needs. It feels like my major ended up connecting just a bit.
Here are some other few types of jobs that may connect with Political science and your comms major:
- International Affairs Groups
- Political Journalist/News editor
- Human Resources jobs
- State government jobs
