Estelle’s Answer

I have been practicing medicine for about 30 years, and I cannot imagine a more fulfilling occupation. Yes! Being a doctor is a satisfying profession. The road to becoming a doctor is long and often difficult, but the jobs that open up to you will be great and worth the sacrifice. The people that you will help will be very grateful. Good luck!

Nadine’s Answer

It would depend on the person. You really need to consider 4 things when choosing a career: skills, interests, personality, and values. You can be good at something and not like it. You can be interested in something and be bad at it. Values - do you want a 9 to 5 job? do you want to work indoors, outdoors, etc? https://acd.iupui.edu/explore/choose-your-major/vips/index.html

Rachel’s Answer

Yes. Surgery will require 13+ years of training after high school as well as thousands of hours of grueling work. However, it is an incredibly fulfilling career and a way to serve your community and your patients. If that appeals to you, then go for it.

Jessica’s Answer

I cannot imagine a different profession. Adults spend at least 30 years of their lives at work, away from significant others and children. I am so grateful to spend that time doing something that makes a difference in the world. Every day I get to interact in a meaningful way with other human's lives. What a gift!

Richard’s Answer

Yes! It is absolutely worth it. There are a lot of long hours studying in the library followed by long hours in the hospital, but it is a fulfilling career. There are so many opportunities after medical school... different specialties appeal to different individuals. Or you can follow a nonclinical route in research or even hospital administration.
