Richard’s Answer
My hospital is taking appropriate precautions.
.Everyone wears a mask. If there is a procedure with a possible covid+ patient we also wear N95 under our regular mask.
.All non urgent procedures are postponed.
.Visitors are limited
.Each room with possible covid+ patient is decontaminated appropriately after the procedure.
However I am not in the ICU or ER. Those people are on the front lines and do take more risks.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. It's bound to happen again.
Sure in the current situation that the healthcare professionals are in, it doesn't seem ideal. Some institutions are more prepared than others, most are not (in reference to personal protective equipment).
You have to honestly think of why you want to go into the healthcare profession.
As a healthcare professional, you will face situations like and unlike this pandemic we are currently facing.
A virus doesn't care about who someone is or what they do for work. That being said of course being around patients who are positive for COVID-19 will put anyone at a higher risk.

Yes. With human history, we have had to face several pandemics.
If your purpose is to help people medically, you can still be a doctor.

We may be facing more pandemics than this one in our lifetime. Yet, those who choose to become a doctor take an oath to do everything they can to save their patients. It is important that when doing so the doctor is fully covered in personal protective equipment. But, doctors must do what they can to save their patients. That is why they chose to be a doctor, because they love to help people. I advise you to list reasons why you would like to become a doctor. That will help your decision amidst this pandemic.

No doubt there is more risk of contracting COVID in healthcare professionals than in other careers. However, this COVID pandemic is just a moment in time, whereas your career is your entire adult life. If you believe that medicine is your calling, then go for it. Take precautions (ie masks and gloves) when you need to.

Hospitals and doctors take full precaution. This obviously isn't the only disease or pandemic we will face. Doctors are exposed to diseases everyday and choose to put their lives on the line to help others. As a healthcare worker you just need to make sure you're taking every precaution to keep yourself and patients safe. If they are following hygiene and protection recommendations they will be safe.
