You want to see if you can volunteer at your local hospital during each of your summers, preferably around doctors and nurses. You can also see if there are blood drives and health fairs you can volunteer for in your city.

You also want to go to www.udemy.com or YouTube to see if there are any FREE information/trainings on HIPAA and Medical Terminology to study/train yourself on, too.

-Shadowing a nurse in the field that interests you
-Maintaining a high GPA & studying to get a good ACT/SAT score
Good luck!

Dear Nayeli,
I think you are smart to know how competitive nursing school is. I had NO idea and that is probably a good thing. I am not sure I would have applied if I knew how competitive it was. You have already received some good advice so the only thing I might add is to suggest getting a job in a hospital as a tech. You will get lots of experience and can work while you are putting yourself through nursing school if you want to. I feel that gives you a great advantage.
Best of luck to you. I'm sure going to nursing school is a decision you won't regret making.
Regards,
Patty Born
