I went to college because my high school friends wanted to college. I really just went with the flow if you will. I got lucky because I went to Berkeley where I met my best friend.

Hi Kinyoh A. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.
In answering your question, I offer that college can be important to two groups...the individual who is working towards completing that goal AND employers. There can be a very successful "handshake" between these two groups. Individuals who go to college go for a countless list of reasons...they have seen others do it, they haven't seen others do it, they want to explore and see life beyond where they are, their parents said so :). In other words, the individual should be clear about why they want to go to college because that clarity can be very helpful when/if challenges arise to completing their degree. Employers, generally speaking, put a lot of value on individuals who complete a college degree in high demand fields. In other words, there could be significant financial benefit and professional growth that comes with completing your college journey.
For me personally, I went to college because after getting an opportunity to visit colleges (and hearing about their benefits for all my high school years) plus my desire to "be an engineer", going to college was a natural progression for me after high school.

College prepares you for what's next and gives you an important credential to get you in the door for an interview. Just the core classes will teach you how to organize, prepare and communicate effectively once you enter the working world. Not to mention access to technology and equipment you may not have at home. College also helps you find your interests and passions, and meet professors, educators and others that may influence what path you take in your career.
