What are the most needed careers in today's world?

I have been really waffling around between different careers. I'm not sure what is the best option to make sure that I can find a job. What jobs are really needed in today's world? I want to make a difference, but i cant make a difference if I get a degree that I can't find a job in. #career-choice

Anything that has to do with computers can definitely get you ahead. Computers skills are absolutely essential in today's world. If not computers, then consider a career in finance or economics or business. Learning financial vocabulary can put you ahead as money management is crucial in this era - much more than ever. These two options are good ones to consider deeply about.

Lori’s Answer

Monica,
Figure out what skills you have and what you are interested in. Then look into careers that encompass both. It is hard to say which careers are most needed if they don't align with your skill set and what inspires you. One thing I have learned is that it will never feel like work if you love what you are doing.

You also need to understand the training and education that is required for the career you want. Are you willing/able to do what is necessary for that career?

You made a great step by asking this question, now try asking questions to those in the fields you are interested in and get their perspective on that particular career.

Careers that seem always in-demand - medical field (home health aide, registered nurse, physical therapist), Trade (Plumbers, electricians, carpentry), Technology (web developer, information security analyst, software developer), and truck drivers to name a few.
Good Luck!

Thank you comment icon Hi Lori! This is great advice, and I definitely agree. Sometimes students have a lot of different interests and passions, and ask questions like these to get some kind of a starting point with their career search. Could you add a bit to your answer that addresses the student’s question about specific careers that are needed? Thanks so much for being active in the CV community! Alexandra Carpenter, Admin
