Would you recommend a career in Obstetrics & Gynecology?

I’m considering going into medicine, but I don’t know what specialty is right for me. I would like a career where I can tackle important problems and make people’s lives better. What do you guys think? Would this be the right specialty? I’m trying to figure out which one is right for me. #healthcare #career-choice #career #medicine

Rachel’s Answer

OB Gyn is an excellent career that combines surgery and medicine. You have the advantage of treating young, healthy women for the most part, and this can be an incredibly rewarding job. There are also a variety of fellowships that you can pursue after your 4 years of OB Gyn training (ex. Gynecology Oncology) that can lead to a whole new level of challenge and interest.

Estelle’s Answer

I have been practicing gynecology for almost 30 years, and I still love my job. I recommend shadowing as many gynecologists as you can. You will have the chance to do an OB/GYN rotation in your 3rd year of medical school. Good luck!
