Gregory’s Answer

Hello,

For the Air Force itself any Bachelors degree or higher will work, but to be competitive the STEM Degrees get looked at a little higher than some of the other degree options. But in the end the degree itself shows the Air Force you are willing to learn. It is also important to keep a good GPA.

Dr.’s Answer

The most direct educational path to becoming an Operations Research Analyst for the Air Force would be to major in Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Here’s why:

1. Operations Research: A degree in operations research provides a direct understanding of the methods used to analyze operations, develop strategies, and make decisions in complex systems.
2. Statistics/Mathematics: A background in statistics or mathematics gives you the necessary skills to analyze and interpret complex datasets, which is a key part of an Operations Research Analyst’s role.
3. Engineering: Engineering, especially Industrial Engineering, focuses on optimizing processes, systems, and organizations - all key aspects of operations research.
4. Computer Science: Since much of operations research involves using complex software to model and analyze systems, a background in computer science can be very useful.
