Becky’s Answer
You NEED video games in college! You will need to shut your mind down from the studying and learning. The key is balance. By planning your day and you week, and sticking to the plan, you will be able to get all the things done in your day. Make sure to carve out some time for friends and games. You will need the distraction from the study. Best of luck!

Work-life balance is the key, Henry. College may require more time to study but you have to make sure that you find time to unwind and have fun. It will help if you list down all your school tasks and prioritize what needs to be done right away and what can wait. Put your tasks in a calendar and make sure that you insert game time in between so you won't get too exhausted. As long as you are not compromising school tasks over playing games, you should be good!

I'd say try to keep things in your life that bring you some joy and relaxation. You'll need fun activities to help destress from the more difficult parts of schooling. Try to manage your weekly calendar ahead of time and make a habit of seeing how your past week went in terms of time. Also, if you see video gaming as a reward for getting bits of homework done, you can use it to motivate yourself as well. You won't have enough time to play an MMORPG, but those tend to consume too much time for a healthy lifestyle for most people anyway.

Plan to spend 2 hours studying for every hour of lecture. So a full course-load will take about 45 hours per week when you include lecture and studying. You should have plenty of spare time for activities.

My advice to you is to be diligent in your studies. You're attending college to transition into a career of your choosing. With that being said, you need to take time to relax and get your mind off of your studies. You'll definitely have time to yourself and video games. We all need that even after college when you're working and later in life if you decide to be a parent. Take advantage of that time to venture out and try new things that spark your interests and meet people. Some of my best friends were a results of me getting to know the people I am around. Good luck!

Yes, you need time to relax and regenerate. If this is your outlet, then you will make time for it. Exercise, eat well, study, sleep and set time aside for recreation. Set priorities and reward yourself for jobs well done.

When Doom (the original, in 1993) came out it nearly brought down many University networks because so many students were playing, especially among the engineers, who have a higher workload than many majors.
You should be able to find time for games. Make sure they don't interfere with your workload, but its definitely doable.

I agree with the comments on work-life balance. One of the great learning goals in college is how to prepare for work life balance and what habits, approaches, and routines work for you. Will definitely need some down time to refresh and recover from studying.

This is a very flexible answer. It depends on how fast you learn and retain info. As any field the more time you put in/practice the better you get. 1st focus no matter what career is putting in your best effort and finding a balance that works for you.

I think so. College works when you have a work life balance. Most of the time professors will give out their assignments weeks in advance, so if you can stay ahead of the class, you will have more than enough time to do things that you enjoy. Again, notice that I used the word "balance". Do not get too distracted with playing games that you lose focus on why you are at the school in the first place. There's a lot of money spent on college, so take advantage of it while you there. But have fun.
