Hi Dilip, first of all make sure you identify which field are you looking for, HVAC, turbines, automotive. etc.. Practice and learn softwares such as AutoCAD, excel. Thermodynamics is a main field to be knowledgeable of in Mechanical Engineering, regardless of which field you choose.
