Jayesh’s Answer
A very interesting question... Start learning and practicing the rules gradually. Here is how to...
Just play only with Pawns. Once you know how pawns move, include the horses too. After a few games, include the bishops too. And finally include the rooks. Include the queen and king at last after you are familiar with the moves of all other pieces.
Enjoy the game!

Great question. There are a lot of Introduction to Chess books/online resources that would be a good starting point. Below are a few things I did when I started playing chess (I started around 10 as well):
- Learn how the pieces move
- Start practicing games (you can play both sides by yourself) or play against the computer
- Learn from your mistakes and make notes
- Within months you should be able to get through the beginner level
- Move one step further and start learning the different opening, middle and end game strategies
Don't give up on learning chess - I truly believe that chess helps in logical and analytical thinking and you can apply the strategies you learn to life!

Hi Harish,
The only way to master something is by continuous practice by correcting the previous mistakes. So, the first step to be a chess player is to start playing it irrespective of whether you you win or not.
For Chess, all you need is to know the moves and then use the proper strategy. Also, please make sure that you would never step back even if you have to face any failure at that point of time.
Once you have good hold on moves, you can practice online/refer strategy making books and the 10min Biltz game.
All the Best!
Regards.
