As a person who has a doctorate in business field, I would agree with the statements above. A PhD would qualify you more for an academic career than a corporate one. That being said, the lessons and knowledge I gained during that process has served me well in my career. Additionally, it does garner a certain amount of respect from my associates. My suggestion would be to weight the cost and benefits based on where you want to go. Do many people in your target company hold a PhD? What segment of business are you focused on and does a PhD make sense there? Do you have the time to dedicate? Is a multiyear project like a PhD better than a nano degree or certification?

In my opinion an additional degree is not the solution for climbing the ladder faster. Based on my experience expanding your skill sets and building relationships in the work place is what I have noticed elevates people to the next level. Also you should view your career as a jungle gym and not a ladder. A ladder assumes there is only one way up, while a jungle gym depicts more of a tactical approach for getting to the top.
Good luck!!!!!

Kishma is correct, it's not about the number of degrees you have, it's about the experience and skills you acquire. While I think education is important, there are examples of entrepreneurs who didn't finish their degrees and still became successful. Look at Michael Dell for example! This being said, I would encourage you to get your undergradutate degree and maybe even your MBA while also doing internships to get experience.
