Will I be able to keep busy and learn more in a field like chemical engineering?

I am worried that I will stagnate in my education and career in the future, and I cannot see myself in a position where I am not challenged. #education #research

NANCY W’s Answer

Hello Maria -

My son was/is a chemical engineering major - he is on hiatus from his classes while he earns money to return to school. But, depending on what field of work you intend to enter - his is environmental - you should have no fears about becoming stagnant either academically or career-wise. There are constantly new developments in a broad area of fields and industries, from the environment to biotechnology to nuclear energy, from disease research to finding out what kind of chemicals could be added to asphalt in a temperate climate that could minimize potholes - a very practical application! :-)

So forge ahead in your studies without reservation; you should continue to find challenges in your career and new academic offerings that will keep you interested for years to come!

All the best to you,

Nancy W.Campbell, M.Ed.

Lynn’s Answer

Engineering is a dynamic field, and chemical engineering spans a lot of potential job situations. You can be as challenged or as rooted as you desire, but remember that it's not a static field: you'll always need to keep learning , problem-solving, and applying your knowledge to as-yet-unasked questions. Research and patents are also a big part of engineering solutions, which keeps things intriguing, as well. If that sounds appealing, go for it, and enjoy the opportunities!
