I am considering attending either a college of art & design or a college/university with strong art programs. Feedback from your experiences? TY
I draw in my free time and usually use marker and pencil. My favorite medium is charcoal. #art

Hi Reagan, Great Question
Universities with an accredited Art & Design program vs Art & Design College.
In my opinion earning a University College Degree will greatly enhance your marketability as a Art & Design professional. Does earning a college degree mean that you’re smarter, well that all depends on you, but in most cases the answer is yes. Even if you don’t remember everything you were taught in college, most students come away with:
√ A greater ability to think analytically and theoretically;
√ A stronger ability to work with teams and project manage groups; and
√ The ability to problem solve tasks and the discipline to see a project through to the end.
These measured abilities to understand the complexities of any job are three key qualities for a potential employer.
And... you may decide later all that glitters is not gold and change your mind about being a Art & Design professional. If you finish your degree, you will still have more well-rounded experience and a better foundation for doing anything else life you choose.

Hi, i love art/photography and i decided that is what i wanted to do for the rest of my life at 18 i attended an art school twice at 2 different stages in my life - in this field you must have drive, passion, and a lot of determination along with talent. I ended up making a different career choice - i do think you have a much better chance of success with all the different social media platforms that exist today. If this is your passion - practice, get exposure, feedback on how you can get better and get around like minded people - College did all that for me but my determination came a little to late - never give up you can accomplish anything YOU put your mind to. Good Luck!!
Thank you so much for sharing you experience and encouraging me.

I went to the University of Georgia and have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography. I started out going down another path and was miserable! Then I went into the Art School and fell in love!!! You meet people that are like you, you can refine your talent and learn other skills (on the computer, sculpting, painting, drawing, photography, etc). They will teach you how to put on shows and become a professional. If you go to a full fledged university, you will be taking other courses, especially the first 2 years so if you find something else that you are interested in during that time, you can change your major along the way.
I wish you all the luck!
Talk to your guidance counselor for what schools can give you the best opportunities
I wish you all the luck!

I have lots of friends with experience in this field. My only advice from a business standpoint is to get as much experience as you can. With social media moving the way it, I'm sure you can find small projects to work on for people and get your name out there early.
Thank you.

Hi, there I am sorry it has taken so long to answer you. College or University would be fun and teach you to step out of the box, your comfort zone. I attended The Academy of Art in Washington and gave me more information and helped me excel in my chosen genre. I paint conceptual abstracts. It was fun as well and hard but worth it. You certainly don't have to attend a school to be successful as an artist it would all be about marketing your self and even if you did go it would still be that way. It is about 10% creative and 90% marketing and admin unless you hire someone to do it for you. There are also classes locally and online such as YouTube you can watch to help you if you want to go that route. I would do that as well, I did and it does enlighten your views. I wish you all the best!

You are in a very unique space in that you have Columbus College of Art & Design and Ohio State University, Capital University, Ohio Dominican University, and many other great Colleges and Universities in your area that you can go visit to determine which type would be the best fit for you. Each has its own benefit. CCAD would be a more focused education while majoring in Art & Design at an University along with Business may make you more marketable. Take an opportunity to visit and explore online.
Thank you for your response and encouragement. I am very familiar with CCAD and will explore the others.
