Doc’s Answer

Hi Lucia,

One best ways to achieve your dreams is to inspire yourself, find something to motivate you every single day. Though dreaming BIG is important, don’t forget to set little goals for yourself, you can take that first step—and the next, and the next—towards realizing that dream.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR DREAM A REALITY

VISUALIZE YOUR DREAM – Visualization is a great first step to making your dream a reality. By visualizing yourself in the final stages and achievement of the dream, you affirm to your subconscious that it can be done and that you are already on your way. This limitless supply of positive energy is crucial to reaching your goal.

GET ORGANIZED – The next step in my experience to reaching your dream is to come up with a strategic plan. Rather than just dreaming about it and hoping one day it'll come true, create a plan that you can look at every day to help make it a reality. Make a list of the first few steps and just do one thing at a time, just remember that each step gets you that much closer.

CREATE A SUPPORT NETWORK – A strong support system is crucial to being successful no matter what your goal is. While this doesn’t mean that you ask someone else to do all of the work for you. Sharing your dream and vision with others who believe in you will greatly help you in your journey towards your goal.

IGNORE THE HATERS – There will always be people who refuse to believe in the feasibility of your dream. They will put you down and they may even tell you that your dream is impossible. You must ignore these “haters” and march forward. Don’t let their negativity even touch you and keep focused and locked in towards your goal.

SELF–CONFIDENCE – Is crucial to making your dream or goal a reality. Unless you believe in yourself and your abilities completely, you will never be able to reach your max potential. You must transform your dreams and goals into a burning desire inside of you. You must feel that you want to reach your dream more than you even want to even breathe. Once you’re in this state of mind you will find that there is not much that can stop you.

Before you know it Lucia, you’ll be living the dream.

Tim’s Answer

For me, visualizing the goal (or goals) that you're trying to achieve is extremely helpful. For example, if your ultimate ambition in life was to become an astronaut, what steps would you envision yourself taking to achieve that goal? If you can visualize that, as well as picturing yourself finally reaching that goal, that can help you stay motivated throughout the process. Remember that persistence is everything. It's easy to start following a dream or an ambition, but give up just as soon as the going gets tough. Visualizing success is just one of the many ways you can help keep yourself motivated and on track to reach your dreams.

Hi Lucia! Great question! I agree with the comments above regarding dreaming big. Nothing is ever impossible & no dream is ever too big!! I think a great step towards accomplishing those goals is to set up a plan. By mapping out the steps necessary to achieve those goals, it becomes easy to see what you have to do to accomplish them!! Also, use the resources you have around you. Whether it’s college counselors, mentors, or advice groups like this- they can be very helpful & give you a push in the right direction.
Good luck to you!! You’re capable of anything!! :)

Andrea’s Answer

Hey there! I think if you can dream it, it means you can do it!
I have always being someone with high expectations on life, my habbilities and my job
I never had the support I hear and see in movies moms give to their kids, she used to think they were all over the top
But that also makes me work even more towards them, proving her and everyone who told me I couldn't do it on the way!
That is your prize!
And how to do it? Plan! If you are more visual like me, create mood boards, vision boards, pins from Pinterest and Instagram and envision your dream life! then? Look inside, what are the skills and tools you have and have access to, parents money, brains, language skills, networking, then start practicing and working your way there, I applied to a masters Degree I wanted in Italy and got 3rd place, so after that my parents could afford sending me there and I learned so much! I am not all the way where I envision myself but I can feel and tell I am on the right path and that is all you need to keep pushing yourself and motivate you!

Hi! This was a really good question. Ideally, it's up to you as to what you want. In the end, it all comes to how much you want something. As long as you pursue your dreams with a strong work ethic, you can achieve anything. You just have to work hard for it

I hope this helped!

Riley’s Answer

Try not to let the negativity of other people get you down! For me, when I have a big goal that seems unattainable I like to break it up into smaller goals. By doing this, you will be able to map out all the little things that you need to do every day in order to stay on track with the big goal that you have in mind. For example, if you want to go to an Ivy League college, challenge yourself to do as well as you can on every assignment that you complete in school. If you can keep accomplishing the small things, the closer you will be to the main goal.

Darin’s Answer

Hi Lucia awesome questions. There's so many ways you can achieve your dream. The obvious answer is to stay at it and keep working hard, but just have fun doing it. Don't stress yourself out. The good thing about college is the freedom to schedule your own classes. If your tired of taking generals, take a break from them and do something with your major. And vise versa, if you tired of majors take generals. If there's something that you want to explore, do it. If there's a class that catches your eye and you want to take it to learn a new skill or hone an existing one, take it. If you know a route you want to look into, do it. Maybe you have an avenue you want to already persue or are considering pursuing. Reach out to someone in that field and ask them for some advice on what you can do to make your dream come true. Reach out to your professors and talk to them. If you start to ever feel discouraged while doing it just take a deep breath and relax and remind yourself why you are doing it. And above all like I said in the beginning just have fun doing it

Rosa’s Answer

Hi Lucia!

I think a good way to begin on your dream is to set goals. Pick one goal and start on that one first. For example, if your dream is to become a great painter start by playing around with the different kinds of paint and learning about them. You can watch videos or read books. This will help you see which you like best. This will help you learn lessons that you can use to your next goal and with practice you will become a professional in your work.

If your dreams seem to scare you, I think that's a good thing because it shows how much they really do mean to you! Everything seems impossible in the beginning but if you take it step by step and continue doing all that you can to learn I know you will be able to achieve your dreams. I believe in you, I wish you the best of luck & hope you reach your dreams soon!

Best wishes,
-Rosa

Simeon’s Answer

It's easier to sustain the pursuit of your dreams by finding a support network that believes in you and holds you accountable to pursuing your goals. You want people that believe you are capable of achieving your dreams and making a point of meeting with them regularly to catch up and let them know how your progress is coming. Also, learn the art of making microgoals. Learn the smallest way you can take a step towards success and always keep that in focus. Microgoals go a long way towards making sure your goals aren't too abstract or that you're missing steps you can take today because you're focused on a big goal on the horizon.

Hi Lucia!

First of all, I want to say Congratulations!

You probably are not aware of this, but they are people who don't have dreams or are still trying to figure out what their dreams are. So congratulations on knowing what your dreams are in such an early stage of your life. You have to believe in yourself that one day, you will make your dreams come true. They are your dreams and they are worth fighting for, right? Good things are never easy to achieve. But as long as you have faith in yourself and you keep moving towards your goal, one day you will get there and you will be so proud of yourself.

Always have faith and stay strong :)

Zonda’s Answer

Hi Lucia,

Dreams are awesome!! They are the places we go to when we have a bad day or things we read about and want to explore. They are motivators and challenges. Just know that they are also evolving. Your dreams may change as you begin to experience new things. Don't be afraid if suddenly their a little smaller on your list of goals or become gigantic - just don't give up on them! Keep pushing and fighting for them. Use every encounter and experience to make them happen. Don't rush them, sometimes dreams take a lifetime. As I said, dreams can change as you change. You may acquire new dreams in between your old dreams, that doesn't mean that those first ones are not achievable or worth while, you just added more to the pot.

Write a dream board or keep a journal to outline how you are progressing. Don't be discouraged from failures or setbacks, these are life experiences, and may mean you have to adjust your plans a little bit. Just keep moving forward and stay open to all the possibilities that come with seeking your dreams.

Reach for the moon and stars..........Best of luck on your journey!

Zonda recommends the following next steps:

Know that a dream may grow and change.
Be open to all possibilites.
Don't let failure stop you.
Keep a journal or dream board to help you track your dreams.

Padmapriya’s Answer

Hi Lucia,

Great question.

Before you have to achieve anything you need to create a dream, a vision of what exactly you want.

7 Steps to Achieve Your Dream:

Step 1: Dream it. Everything begins in the heart and mind.
Step 2: Believe it. Yes, your dream needs to be big.
Step 3: See it. The great achievers have a habit.
Step 4: Tell it. One reason many dreams never go anywhere is because the dreamer keeps it all to himself.
Step 5: Plan it.
Step 6: Work it.
Step 7: Enjoy it.

You can build your confidence in 10 ways:

Get Things Done. Confidence is built on accomplishment.
Monitor Your Progress. The best way to reach your goals, big or small, is break them into smaller goals and to monitor your progress.
Do The Right Thing.
Exercise.
Be Fearless.
Stand-up For Yourself.
Follow Through.
Think Long-term.

Hope this helps. All the Best!!

Natalie’s Answer

Hi Lucia!

Confidence comes from preparedness - of knowing yourself, the industry that you are interested in and where it stands now, and where you/the industry may be in the future.

It's okay if you don't know all of this at the moment. What is important is to remain curious, learn a little bit everyday, and constantly practice your craft. Have an understanding of all styles - both the history and current events/trends, but find your niche style and excel in it.

Follow people on social media who inspire you. If their platform is a size where they are still able to interact with followers, see if they would be willing to share any advice (ask nicely and professionally). Or, see if they have any videos/posts with career advice.

While it is amazing and important to have big dreams, be open to variations of that dream that you may enjoy or that may act as stepping stones to the big dream. I wish you all the best :)

Sincerely,
Natalie

Aicha’s Answer

Hi Lucia! I was in the same boat as you were back when I was in high school. I feel like the best way to stay motivated and confident in yourself is to not focus so much on the big picture (your ultimate dream). Instead focus on the steps you need to take in order to get there. Start doing research on what classes you should take, what schools you could possibly go to, start networking and getting to know people, etc. It is easy to get discouraged because your dreams may seem too big to accomplish but do not give up on yourself. Set realistic goals that you know that you will be able to reach. I am confident that you will one day reach your biggest goal and have your dream career! You just have to put the time and dedication into it. Also, one last thing if you have friends or family that do not agree with your plans keep pushing through and do what makes you happy.
Thank you comment icon Hi Aicha, your advice is awesome! I agree with you 100% on "focusing on the steps" you need to take in order to get to your dream and, putting in the time and dedication. Great positive comments. Sheila Jordan

Christopher’s Answer

Hi Lucia,
A few things you could do to follow your dreams. 1) Find a mentor in the field in which you want to pursue. This will do a few things. It will allow you to stay in the know on whats going on in that field, it will keep your ideas fresh, also you will have an advantage of the knowledge and growth of the field. 2) Follow things on social media in the field. This will keep your interest in the field. The more you see it, the more want to chase it. 3) Research, research and do more research. Learning never gets old. Even when you think you know it all, trust me there is something new. Good luck with everything and I'm sure whatever it is that you love will come to you.

Xavier’s Answer

Set feasible goals for yourself daily. This gives you that feeling of purpose. People tend to lose confidence in their dreams when they don't seem to be getting closer to it. Usually that feeling arises when your progression towards your dream ceases to exist. Well from one dreamer to another, I will tell you the feeling of wanting to give up will happen. Don't beat yourself up about it. If you want to cry, let yourself cry. There's a quote that says, there's nothing wrong with being weak, but staying weak is a problem. After you've noticed the issues that's hindering you from moving toward your dream, write down a plan and follow it perfectly. Being consistent is very important. Having consistency allows you to truly gauge whether something is working or not. If you just "kinda" practice your craft, you'll never really know how great you can be.

Lastly, become a student of your craft. I don't care what it is. Make sure you research as much information as you can, and become a pro. In this day and time, we have so much access to knowledge, success is almost promised for us if we really try. I'm glad you asked this question, I hope my answer helps a little. Believe in yourself.

Oh and p.s. Don't compare yourself to other people. Your only competition in life is "YOU". Try to wake up and be a better you each day. Track your growth, and I think the confidence you want will come !

Mike’s Answer

Two things: First, how do you eat an elephant. The truth is, one bit at a time.

The second, the more you want something, the more you focus on it, the likely it becomes reality. Our mind is a powerful instrument. It takes us places our feet cannot. With that said, make every effort to do something each day to get where you want to be. If it requires an education, then focus on your education. You cannot win a race, until after you begin to walk. You have to start somewhere. There will always be distractions and excuses. Don't fall into the trap of accepting them. Work around them and/ or through them. Surround yourself with positive people. Dump the people around you who try to talk you down. If they are family, ignore them and achieve your goals without them.

Also, do not judge your progress based on someone else's achievements, belongs or status. You are not replicating some else's life. You are forging ahead making your dreams become your reality. It all starts with your first bite.

Best wishes on your endeavors.
