Hi Dominique,

This is a really good question. I think it's great that you have recognized an area of opportunity and are proactively working towards improving it. The main thing you have to have is discipline, which I know is easier said than done. I think to-do lists (to know what is due and when), creating an environment that limits distractions and time management are other important elements for developing effective study habits. Set time aside each day, during your most productive time of day, to study. Make a list of all you wish to accomplish and tackle it in small chucks. As an example, if you have an exam that covers four chapters of information, I would study a chapter a day and then do a review of all chapters the day before and of the exam. This will ensure you are learning the material and have an opportunity to refresh prior to the exam. This will obviously require you to begin days in advance and not wait until the last minute. Cramming is not an effective method for studying, so refrain from doing so whenever possible.

Good luck!

Great question - hang out with people who have good study habits. See first hand how they study and prioritize their work. Practice what you see and ask for direction. It is always helpful to study in a quiet place with few distractions. Try not to study when you are hungry or tired. When you start to lose focus, get up and get some physical activity so your mind can rest.
