Amber’s Answer

Technologist is a bit broad.

In general, to be good at any bit of technology requires the following:

1) Read - understand what tech has been done, what's available, what's been tried and worked/failed and why did it work fail
2) Study/learn - once you know what technology is available, pick a few areas to do deep dives on and study via classes or self-study
3) Practice - practice what you learned, make or expand a small app
4) Expand/contribute - once you feel confident in the technology you've studied, make contributions to it by creating new apps or extending others in novel ways

Good luck :)

Brian’s Answer

Congrats - you've already figured out you want to be in a great industry with a great future.

What others have stated is true - the best way to get started is in computer science, data science, etc.

Therefore, I will give you something else to think about:

Those who go into computer science can end up writing code all day. If this is what you want to do - THAT's great! Go for it.

Many individuals I know who are happy in the tech world however enjoy being a part of the strategy, business and design side of tech. If this is something you think you would enjoy then google things such as the following:
1. UI design
2. UX design
3. Product MGMT

These are areas that will always be needed in tech and engage you to think about the business strategy, user experience and solving real world problems.

In short - there are many areas of "tech" and I would suggest really thinking about which area you want to be in.
