Hi Sarah,

To answer that question it all depend on state or the type of certificate you earn. For example LPN verse LVN to become BSN. I was told by a woman is to get a job or volunteer at a hospital to learn from other nurses. The next step is to find a mentor while doing so. This can help you decided how far are you willing to be an RN to a BSN. I have to say the end result is worth it.

Good luck to you.

Hi! I certainly understand the concern- school can be very expensive. It's a difficult question to answer because new RN rates vary across the country. Larger cities in metropolitan areas often have a higher rate - And hospitals usually pay more than private offices. In the Memphis area I believe the rate is approx $22 / HR base rate with additional differentials that can approach $5 or so per hour on top of base (depending on working off shifts). It's different in other market areas - but most nurses can make good pay if willing to be flexible and work needed shifts. Hope this helps!!
