Hey Madison!

Wow, a very broad question! Its really hard to pinpoint how to answer this because there are so many variables. It depends on many factors on what a person thinks is the best industry. Which ones do they weight more? What positions are we comparing? What kind of work is more "impactful"? How do you define "benefits" (social good or self-being etc.)?

I think the first question to ask is what industry do I want to work in. After that, what are the things I value the most and then to rank those companies. For example, the petroleum industry is really well paying but if I want more work / life balance, I would weigh a more laid back company more.

Fortune publishes a list of best companies to work for every year:
http://fortune.com/best-companies/

But its really arbitrary. Some people hate large companies because there is too much bureaucracy and politics. People in charge might not be the most qualified to run their position and are just there because they have been there longer or have a friend that's a big boss.

I hope that kind of pivots your question better! If you had a specific industry, that would help me answer your question better.

Hi Madison, that is a subjective question depending upon your skills and also your interests. But once you have finalized the industry you want to work in (consumer, telecom, media etc.) try and focus on the type of organization you want to work with (start-ups or established) and each will have their own pros & cons. For eg. there might be ambiguity in a relatively newer org while processes would have already been defined in an established org but on the contrary you might be able to define and set new dimensions in a newer org as its easier to bring about a change in newer companies. But once you have these thoughts ironed out, you should ideally go through the company website and try and connect with few existing employees through professional networking platforms and also search for the salaries offered by the org through various websites available like glassdoor, ambitionbox,Linkedin etc. There are numerous rankings done for the organizations and you may refer to the below one and search basis your interests.

Rashika’s Answer

Hello Madison,
This is an interesting question as there are so many variables. It all starts with what you like or want to do and how you can take that into the working world. Working for the "best company" depends on your perspective and what the company represents and if that resonates with you. I would look at what excites you and what kind of work/life balance you would like to have. Every industry has its highs and lows. I would start by networking and talking to people around you and getting an idea of what their thoughts and experience are like. See what fields they work in.
You can check out websites like Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and Indeed to also help you navigate and learn about the different industries.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
