I may be interested in pursuing Finance but I am not sure what kind of careers this would apply to. Can you give me some advice on this?

I do not know that much about Finance career fiels and I just need more information. #finance

Thank you comment icon A degree in finance opens up a world of opportunity for you. I would try to narrow it down but trying to figure out if you like more of the accounting part and numbers or if your more service oriented. Financial advising would be an area where you could help someone or family save for their retirement by showing them importance of saving and which investments might be good options. Another area in service would be underwriting. This job offers great satisfaction as you could work for banks, mortgage companies or the government and help someone qualify to purchase their first home or auto loan. Good luck in your search. Generally, a finance degree would lead to a job related to financial investments in some way. This could mean working at a bank, an investment bank, an asset manager (helping individuals and institutions invest their money), or working in the finance department of a company handling the internal finances.

If you have an interest in financial markets and numbers I think a Finance degree would be beneficial.

Hi Luke. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), has some really great information on how to get started. This site lists jobs, job requirements, as well as average pay.

Below is a link to Financial Occupations to get you started in planning.

Here is a good online article I found comparing finance and accounting degrees. It may give you some more insight and there are links to other related topics. http://www.rasmussen.edu/degrees/business/blog/accounting-vs-finance-which-degree-is-right-for-you/

I remember when I was considering my college major I had similar question. I ended up going with business administration but later when looking for a job in a very competitive market I had some regret for having not gone with finance or accounting. This is primarily based on the fact that many jobs positions I found interesting required either finance or accounting degrees and would not consider a general business administration major. Conversely, any position that accepted a business administration major also considered finance and accounting majors.

Great question. Please let me know if I can offer any additional information for you.

Good luck!
