What field is best in engineering if you are great in mathematics?

I am great at mathematics, but I am not sure what branch to choose from. I love to solve math problems and learn more new topics about math. I also want to be able to create my own problems and solve it. #engineering #industrial-engineering

Lionel’s Answer

Hi Fate,

Software Engineering for one. The skills you use in mathematical problem solving can be used directly in programming software algorithms for scientific purposes or designing better computers or data analysis for unlimited opportunities.

cheers,
Lionel

Hi Fate Alexis L. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

Love your question! And what I find particularly interesting about your question is that it seemed to foreshadow the fact that technology and the world of engineering continues to evolve. More specifically, as I write this response to you in late 2020, the field of data science is blossoming at a faster and faster rate and it is a field that has at least two things: 1)a tremendous amount of areas in which it is used 2)heavy reliance on math, specifically the fundamentals of statistics.

Many top tier data scientists have spend their entire educational journey in math and have had to good fortune to lend their skill sets to making terrific and positive strides for significant problems like environmental health, improving business process and building better customer experiences. (I want to clarify that even though data science doesn't include the phrase "engineering", I can tell you from experience that it incorporates a large majority of the fundamentals that engineers use for other, more traditional uses of engineering.)

Please do continue your love of math. It will take you far! Best of luck. :)

Andrew D.’s Answer

Become an actuary you'll have much more math and less factory and machines from the IE side. Pays better plus you can get a city job Nd find one way faster. Honestly software engineering is another good choice for the same thing.

let me ask you a question first. What do you like other than mathematics?

Thank you comment icon I like computers, some sports and dance. Fate Alexis
Thank you comment icon Great! ... Have you thought about computer engineering, software engineering, or computer science. Check them out! Computer science is VERY reliant on math. Wael Al-Rihawi
Thank you comment icon I've thought about computer engineering, but I wasn't sure. I'll check out computer science and software engineering. Thank you so much for the information! :) Fate Alexis
