Is it possible to get an internship at a company while studying abroad?

I'm currently a senior about to go to college and would like to study abroad in my second or third year of college. It would be great to study in another country and gain experience on what I want to do. Also seeing how another country does what I will do can open my mind on how to approach problems with a different perspective.

It is possible. When I was studying in college, I was able to get an internship in Australia at the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) during my senior year. My school (Boston University) has a study abroad internship program in Sydney, Australia.

When you are considering schools to apply to, you can look at their study abroad programs page to see if they offer the kinds of programs that you might be interested it.

I also knew a lot of people who studied at different schools that didn't have the programs that they wanted, and they came on Boston University's program and transferred the credit back to their school. If you find yourself at a school without the study abroad opportunities that you want, you can look for schools that have study abroad programs that you can join in on. Be sure to check with your schools registrar office and financial aid office to see how/if these credits will transfer back and how your financial aid can apply to a program outside of your school.

You can certainly study abroad although it will depend on your college/university regarding how easy it is to do and whether it will count for credit. Almost every single one has a program for people to work/intern and in most cases it will allow for the work to be in another country. It does not even need to be for a company, in many cases it could be for a non-profit or other volunteer organization.

The main thing is to reach out to the college(s) to see what programs are available. Some may allow aspects to count as credit. Some may not or only as partial credits. Some will not provide any credit but will not count the time away against you since it is a valuable life experience.

Another thing to keep in consideration is where you might like to go. What countries are you OK with? Language skills needed? Costs involved in getting to and from there.
