What's the most distinguishing characteristic of an education degree in relation to your college experience?

College is different for everybody; people study different things and this therefore leads to different learning experiences. I was wondering what sets an education degree apart from a typical "college experience". #educator

Terre’s Answer

It’s so critical for you to have experience. Look for a college or university that puts you in the classroom as early as possible. You will want to observe successful teachers, participate in their students’ learning, learn to create lesson plans, experience disciplining students, and above all, learn to create a classroom community that motivates students to learn. At the same time, you must become an expert in the area you wish to teach if you want to teach middle or high school.

Nancy’s Answer

An education degree will prepare you with foundations to understand how students learn. Often the student teaching portion is one of the most hands-on types of experiential learning for undergraduates. The college experience will be similar otherwise to students studying a wide variety of subjects. An education degree will facilitate getting a job as a certified teacher in many states.
